Economic development is critical to the growth and prosperity of Dickinson County’s businesses and individuals. Whether attracting new businesses, supporting existing ones or creating new job opportunities, economic development initiatives drive toward enhancing our community’s overall quality of life.

Dickinson County Economic Development Corporation (DKEDC) is excited to celebrate two national events this spring to recognize local economic development: National Small Business Week from April 28 - May 4 and Economic Development Week (EDW) from May 6 - May 10.

"At DKEDC, economic development helps grow the local economy through business retention and expansion, business recruitment, workforce development and the promotion of quality of life initiatives," said Jessica Goodale, Executive Director at DKEDC. "These two events are perfect times to recognize the efforts of all the driven individuals and businesses committed to the ongoing success of Dickinson County.”

In support of small businesses

American Express has reported that $0.68 of every dollar spent at a small business in the U.S. stays in the local community, while every dollar spent at small businesses creates an additional $0.48 in local business activity.

For over 60 years, the U.S. Small Business Administration has recognized that impact through National Small Business Week. The event runs April 28 - May 4, 2024, and acknowledges the entrepreneurs and small business owners whose hard work, ingenuity, and dedication drive the good fortunes of communities nationwide.

Recognizing economic development

The International Economic Development Council’s EDW is a broad recognition of the importance of economic development. At its core, economic development involves various activities to attract, create, and retain jobs to enhance a region’s economic well-being, wealth, and overall quality of life. This collaborative effort requires close coordination between businesses, government entities, and various community stakeholders to achieve sustainable success.
During EDW, we celebrate the hard work and dedication of our economic developers and local leaders, who are committed to driving economic growth and improving our community's quality of life. We invite you to join us in recognizing their efforts and learning more about economic development's impact on our region.
