Abilene Golf and Fitness is Open for Business

July 1, 2023 (ABILENE, Kan.)— An outpouring of community representatives welcomed Abilene Golf and Fitness, LLC with a ribbon cutting event Friday afternoon (June 30), ahead of their grand opening celebration and golf tournament Saturday, July 1.

The 9-hole golf course, cart rental, swimming pool, fitness center, tanning beds, driving range and rentable storage units are now open for business. More projects are planned. 

Chief Warrant Officer 4 Brian Slaughter is the new owner. At the ribbon cutting, CW4 Slaughter introduced his wife Monique, mother, daughter Heidi, son Derek, as well as the Abilene Golf and Fitness staff. He expressed his appreciation to local organizations and businesses who have partnered with him in the development stage, and shared that the love and pride within the community is evident.

The ribbon cutting was sponsored by the Dickinson County Economic Development Corporation. Other attending groups included AHS golf team coaches and team members, Abilene City Commissioners, Dickinson County representatives, the Community Foundation of Dickinson County, Abilene Rotary, local business leaders, golf enthusiasts and supporters.

"To have the outpouring of supporters today is reflective of how pleased we are to have Brian and his family step up and take this on as a family-owned business," said Kent Campbell, Dickinson County Economic Development Corporation Executive Director. "It was a great chance to show our support for this revived 'Quality of Life' destination that can benefit Dickinson County residents of all ages." 

Grand Opening events Saturday included morning and afternoon bracket golf tournament, cash and golf equipment prizes, BBQ dinner open to the public, and a live band "Soul Preachers" performed 5-8 p.m. Results of the golf tournament have been posted on the Abilene Golf and Fitness’ Facebook page.
