Conduct regular Business Retention & Expansion (BRE) interviews with local industry to determine development opportunities and capture other relevant data such as workforce, facility, capital and infrastructure chal-lenges.
Conduct BRE site visits to corporate headquarters of area businesses domiciled outside of the community.
Work to foster a more business-friendly public policy environment.
Develop programs for existing business to interface and create business opportunities for new and existing businesses.
Initiate and fund periodic “decision maker or stakeholder” briefings that can provide current legislative, business, and “state of the state” updates.
Serve as the liaison between government, business and education.
Ensure a competitive incentive package is in place.
Encourage and assist local business in developing export markets.
BUSINESS RECRUITMENT AND MARKETING
GOAL: Develop and implement a plan to retain and expand current job opportunities while continually recruiting jobs to Dickinson County. Provide a source for all business recruitment, referrals, special assistance and matters relating to community economic develop-ment. Develop marketing materials fully utilizing social media to present the area in a positive manner.
Develop and implement a Strategic Economic Development Marketing Plan.
Confirm the target market industry clusters and aggressively market and promote the Dickinson County Area to other areas in Kansas, across our nation and the globe.
Package all aspects of our area including business climate, accessibility, transportation, educational opportunities, culture, the cost of living and cost of doing business in an easily accessible format.
Include listings of specific prospects per target market or industry cluster.
Make recruitment visits to targeted industry prospects and/or site selec-tors.
Involve existing businesses in determining the possibility of their suppliers establishing facilities in the region.
Update and maintain the economic development website (site selector’s first impression).
Capture, identify and respond to site selectors.
Participate in appropriate target-industry trade shows and conferences.
Participate in regional economic development opportunities.
Develop a relationship with the Kansas Department of Commerce.
GOAL: Support the development of entrepreneurial startup firms and small businesses.
Champion the development and management of existing regional innovation organizations which will spur entrepreneurship and innovation within the region.
Champion development of risk capital to support start-up and growth-oriented companies.
Support the development and growth of social networks of entrepreneurs, venture capitalists, and researchers in the Dickinson County area.
Provide a network of business mentors for entrepreneurs.

COMMUNITY IMAGE BRANDING AND MARKETING
GOAL: Create Brand for Marketing the Community with Community Buy-in.
Form consensus within Dickinson County of how the community should appear to outside parties.
Develop a logo or image to appear on websites throughout the county, school districts, city halls, hospitals, non-profits and local businesses that are easily recognizable and fun.
Form strong relationships with the Chamber of Commerce, Convention and Visitors Bureau, Community Foundations, Greyhound Industry, Eisenhower Museum and Library and Boyhood Home; the Race Car Kansas Auto Racing Museum, leading businesses and others seeking to promote the qualities and of the County, illustrating community togetherness and friendly partnerships.
